Wrightsville Beach Special Events for May 2013

It promises to be another fun-filled, action packed few weeks in and around Wrightsville Beach. The weather is usually ideal for a variety of outdoor activities. See which ones of these upcoming happenings appeal to you:

Airlie Gardens Concert Series – Kick off the outdoor concert season on Friday, May 3rd with local favorite, L-Shape Lot. If you have never attended a concert at this breathtakingly beautiful venue, by all means get to a concert this summer! Convenient free parking and shuttle service operates from the former Cinema 6 site at 5335 Oleander Drive, which is adjacent to Tidal Creel and Great Harvest. Admission is free for Airlie members, $8 for adults, and $2 for kids. Upcoming concerts will feature Bibis Ellison, 40 East, and Shine. Learn more by calling 910-798-7700.

Safari Hunt – Saturday, May 4th– 9:00 am-Have you ever wanted to be in one of those survival skill reality TV shows? How about an Easter Egg Hunt on steroids? This event could come close! Divers will search the water around the Liberty Shipwreck for numbered tokens that will be hidden on the 400-foot long vessel. Each diver is allowed to retrieve a maximum of 3 tokens. Afterwards, the participants will celebrate with a free hot dog cookout at the Bridge Tender Marina. Yes! There will be loads of prizes and free Safari Hunt Tees for participating divers. 23rd Annual River to Sea Bike Ride – Saturday, May 4th-What a perfect way to enjoy a springtime Saturday with the whole family! This leisurely paced 11-mile ride starts in downtown Wilmington and ends at Wrightsville Beach Park. Helmets are required and there will be a trolley option for the return trip. Kona Waterman Classic – Presented by the Wrightsville Beach Longboard Association – Saturday May 18th through Sunday May 19th. This 2-day event draws watermen from up and down the eastern Seaboard. The Longboard Classic is set for Saturday with an SUP Ocean race slated for Sunday. The awards ceremony will feature raffles and music. 40th Annual Cape Fear Blue Marlin Tournament – May 29th through June 1st. This year’s tournament promises to be the biggest and best yet! Wrightsville Beach Marina will serve as headquarters and official weigh station.
