The 15th Annual East Coast Wahine Surfing Tournament will take place at the Columbia St. access in downtown Wrightsville Beach the weekend of August 20 and 21, 2011. This event partners with Wrightsville Beach’s Sweetwater Surf Shop and celebrates 15 years of women’s surfing.
Female surfers of all ages and abilities will display their skills in shortboard, longboard, bodyboard, and novice divisions. Wrightsville Beach has been named a Top Ten Surfing Town and UNCW is one of the Top Ten Surfing Colleges in the nation according to Surfer Magazine. Away.com also named Wrightsville Beach one of the Best Places to Learn to Surf. In light of this recognition, it does seem apropo for Wrightsville Beach to host a celebration of East Coast women surfers.
