NC Big Sweep Beach Cleanup, Wrightsville Beach

Since 1987, New Hanover County has made a yearly effort to reduce the amount of litter that pollutes our waterways through a volunteer beach cleanup event. What began as a simple beach sweep with about 1,000 volunteers soon evolved into the statewide event known as Big Sweep.

This year, The North Carolina Big Sweep will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at different site locations. Anyone who is interested in taking part in this environmentally-friendly event should visit keepnhcbeautiful.org to sign up. There is no cost to participate.

Once you sign up, you will receive an email with more detailed information on the cleanup sites. Participants are encouraged to wear sunscreen, closed-toes shoes and clothes that can handle getting a little dirty.

As a fun incentive and special prizes will be given for the most unusual trash found! Just think of what you might discover…
