Fall Events in Wrightsville Beach 2013

Fall in Wrightsville Beach is a Great Time to…

Save $2 / hour on parking – after October 31st that is! Fall also signals the 6-month period that allows dog owners to bring their best friends to the beach. From October 1st through March 31st, dogs are allowed on the beach strand along Wrightsville Beach as long as:

  • They are on a leash.
  • Their owners are responsible, clean up after their canine pals, and dispose of the waste bag in a public trash receptacle.
  • Please be aware that failing to follow those guidelines can result in a $250 fine, even for first offenders.
  • See Wrightsville Beach Pet Rules for more info.

This will mark the 26th year for the N.C. Big Sweep Cleanup! On Saturday, September 21st, volunteers will gather across the region to pick up trash, debris, and millions of cigarette butts from the state’s beach strands and waterways.

The Wrightsville Beach Big Sweep draws hundreds of volunteers annually. It’s a great way for friends, families, businesses, and service groups to spend a beautiful fall morning and participate in a global event that has become a part of the International Coastal Cleanup. To date, there are close to 90 countries, 55 states and territories that take part in this worthwhile endeavor.

For details on how to volunteer please use this link: www.ncbigsweep.org or call Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation at 910-256-7925.

Hope you and your 4-legged friend have been practicing because the competition will be fierce at this year’s 20th Annual Bark in the Park Skyhoundz Hyperflite Canine Disc Championships. The action takes place on Saturday, October 5th at 11 am at the Wrightsville Beach Park. It’s free to register and competitors need no previous experience. A rain date has been set for October 6th. To register, please call 910-256-7925.

The 2nd Annual Taste of Wrightsville Beach is scheduled for Saturday, October 12th. Last year’s event was a big success so make plans early! Nearly 30 Wrightsville Beach purveyors of food, beer, and wine, will showcase their delectable island fare.

This fundraiser benefits the Wrightsville Beach Beautification Project and Weekend Meals on Wheels. Celebrity judges will be on hand to present the “Best in Show Award” and the hungry crowd will be in charge of naming the “People’s Choice” winner.

The food booths and band, The Blue Tang Bandits will be set up at MarineMax at 130 Short Street at Wrightsville Beach. For ticket prices and more information, please visit this website: wrightsvillebeachfoundation.org/taste-of-wrightsville-beach

Take Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis on Saturday, October 26th around the John Nesbitt Loop. The walk registration begins at 3pm and the walk starts at 4. This is the nation’s only event of its kind, at this time. Please join volunteers and sponsors in support of this worthwhile cause. The proceeds gathered from sponsored walkers will benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

For details and to register on line, please visit: Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis.
