Celebrate Valentine’s Day the Wrightsville Beach Way!

With Valentine’s Day falling on a Friday this year, expectations will be high. As if that weren’t already enough, February 14th also coincides with this month’s full moon, which is known as the Full Snow Moon. Having the opportunity to kick off the weekend with a holiday that’s synonymous with hearts and flowers, special dinners, champagne toasts, and decadent chocolates is ideal, really. Thanks to the naturally romantic backdrop of Wrightsville Beach, it’s easy to show your Valentine how much you care.

Regardless of your budget, here are a few suggestions for a Valentine’s Day or weekend to remember.

Picnic for Two – Whether you choose to picnic in the park, on the beach, or your own backyard, Friday’s full moon makes this option a winner. So how elaborate should you go? From oysters on the half shell to steaks on the grill, the decision is all yours. Scores of local establishments have delicious meals and exquisite sweet treats available for pickup or you could DIY. Given that the temps may be cool, but pleasant, a thermos full of Lobster bisque, a loaf of crusty French bread, a nice bottle of bubbly, and something memorable for dessert should do it! Remember to bring some folding chairs and a few blankets so your sweetie will be comfy.

Wrightsville Beach Scenic Cruises – No boat, no problem when you leave the cruising to the capable folks at Wrightsville Beach Scenic Cruises. They have several excursions to choose from, including sunset cruises all Valentine’s weekend and trips to Masonboro Island. If your Valentine is an angler, a fishing charter may be the perfect way to say, “I love you.”

The Sweetheart Dinner or Weekend at Blockade Runner Resort – The folks at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort have made it easy for you. With a quick phone call, you can reserve a spot for Friday evening’s special 3-course dinner for two or book a special Sweetheart room package for the entire weekend!

Since the area has an abundance of fine dining establishments as well as casual, but intimate options, the time to make a reservation is now! From gorgeous ocean or ICW views provided by several restaurants to the homey charm of old standbys such as Vito’s and King Neptune’s, the choice is yours.

If making it all the way to the island is not feasible for you and your Valentine, no problem. There are scores of other ways to show your affection and have a lovely evening out as well!

Beer and Chocolate Tasting – Sounds like something to make everyone happy and even better, it’s free! Wilmington wine shop, Fermental, will host a memorable evening this Friday, beginning at 6 pm. A selection of fine chocolates will be paired with an international variety of beers, including hefeweizens, chocolates stouts, porters and IPAs. Local vocalist Susan Savia will provide live music. Fermental is located at 7050-B Market Street-just before Smithfield’s Bar-B-Que. For more information, call the shop at 910.821.0362.

Couples Dinner Fundraiser at The Hampton Inn – A Breast Cancer Fundraiser – The Hampton Inn hosts this worthwhile event on Friday the 14th at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $30 per couple and participants will enjoy a romantic dinner, live entertainment, and a silent auction. For more information, please call Shawntae Sutton at 910.762.1166.

A Heartbreakers Holiday – Leave it to TheatreNOW to offer an unconventional way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The troupe Vaudeworld presents the show, A Heartbreakers Holiday, which incorporates burlesque, belly dancing, aerial, sideshow acts, and fire performances. The fun begins at 10 pm at 19 South 10th Street. Tickets range from $10 to $15.

UNCW Jazz Concert – After a nice dinner, why not drop by the UNCW Beckwith Recital Hall for an evening of Big Band jazz? The group is directed by the talented Jerald Shynett and the music starts at 7:30 pm. With admission at just $5, there will cash to spare, perhaps for a post-performance splurge on a sinfully rich dessert, coffee, or champagne! Call here for more info: 910.962.3415

We hope you find a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Wrightsville Beach or Wilmington – whether it’s through one of our suggestions above or your own unique celebration. Happy Valentine’s Day!
