Every year when the holidays hit, I find myself driving around to look at all the beautifully twinkling lights while sipping an eggnog latte. I have been to Enchanted Airlie more times than I care to admit and every Christmas as a kid involved at least one visit to the “World’s Largest Living Christmas Tree” (although I have no clue if it actually was the largest in the world or just the largest in Wilmington). Somehow despite a local who loves all things holiday light related, I missed the fact that Wrightsville Beach is home to a holiday decorating contest each year.
Sponsored by the Harbor Island Garden Club, Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation Department, the annual Wrightsville Beach Holiday Decorating Contest is open to any Wrightsville Beach resident or business that enters. Prizes are awarded for Most Creative, Most Traditional, Best Holiday Lighting, Most Holiday Spirit, Best Overall Residence and Best Over Overall Business.
While the deadline to enter is noon on Tuesday, December 13 2016 with judging taking place that evening beginning at 5:30 pm, don’t wait until the last minute to start planning your decorations! If you are feeling a bit stumped, visit our “Christmas on the Coast” Pinterest board for holiday decorating ideas inside your home and out.
To enter your home or business, call the Parks and Recreation office at 910.256.7925.
